rant ahead!

Yesterday in my group we were having a talk about movies. Most of the people there don't think much about movies (and I admit, alot of movies this year have sucked), but that's not why I'm writing this. I'm writing this because of what one of the girls there said that really irritated me and, as usual, I couldn't come up with a really good comeback until after the conversation had already ended.

She said, "Movies aren't good because they're only made to make money."

What she said is unfair because it could apply to any other industry you can think of. Writers like to write books but that doesn't mean they don't like getting their paychecks. Artists like to paint but doesn't mean they don't want their paintings sold. Farmers grow food to SELL IT. People like making websites and if they can make some money off it, good for them.

The truth is that if books didn't make money, there would be a lot less writers. If paintings didn't make money there would be alot less painters. And if Movies didn't make money there would be a lot less people making them. But in every bussiness and industry, in this case Movies, there are always going to be people who geniually like doing what they do and doing it right, but that doesn't mean they don't like getting paid along the way. Everyone has to make a living oneway or another. Right?

I love going to the Movies because I love laughing my head off, being awed at an action sequence or a plot twist, getting a little tear-eyed, or giving my brain some serious thinking to do. I love the whole damn expierience, and if I have to pay $7.50 to get that expierience, so be it (I know there are some rediculous ticket prices in some places but that's another entry). And if you let yourself think like the girl above you'll never be able to feel the same way.

You will run into some bad movies along the way that's true, but if you don't then you'll never learn how to spot the good ones.
